Sips, Snacks, and Pool Time for a Wedding Weekend in Savannah – Summer 2025 Update

In May, my husband and I met several of our friends in Savannah. One of our good buddies from law school was getting married and we were all excited for an adults-only weekend to celebrate! It was a quick whirlwind weekend, but it didn’t stop us from having a blast. We hit some of our favorite spots from previous visits and also discovered new ones. We always love visiting Savannah and have been a few times (see previous posts here). Savannah is a charming Southern town known for its squares surrounded by oaks draped in Spanish moss, historic architecture, and relaxed Southern hospitality. The cobblestone streets, riverfront views, and incredible food create a setting that feels both timeless and welcoming. If you’re heading to Savannah soon, here’s an updated shortlist of restaurants, activities, and hotels!

Where to Eat/Drink

For Breakfast – Savannah is definitely a brunch city with many great restaurant options. One of our favorites is Collins Quarter, both the original downtown location and the newer location in Forsyth Park. The food and coffee are fantastic and reliable and the ambiance is beautiful. It’s a must visit when you’re in Savannah. I recommend the classic avocado toast and decadent strawberry Dubai french toast.

We also discovered Little Duck Diner on this trip, which was in the same square as our hotel. Little Duck Diner has an old-fashioned diner feel, but with an up-to-date brunch menu. The highlight for me was their adorable and delicious iced coffee, served with a mini rubber ducky on top!

If you’ve read about my previous Savannah trips, you may remember my love of Zunzi’s, formerly a hole in the wall offering casual South African eats. Since my last trip, it has evolved into Zunzibar, a seafood and surf bar that exudes coastal vibes and fun. The drinks are strong and food is flavorful and I recommend it whole-heartedly for a relaxed lunch!

The night before the reception, we had a large group dinner with our friends at Rhett, a restaurant in the Riverfront district that offers upscale low-country cuisine using local Georgia ingredients, served with true Southern hospitality. We had a fantastic experience at Rhett and were happy with the service to our large group.

After dinner, we stayed in the Riverfront District and bounced around to several of the rooftop bars. We started at Top Deck at the Cotton Sail Hotel, but later moved to Bar Julian at The Thompson, where the vibes were a bit more low-key. Bar Julian is the highest rooftop in Savannah and offers fantastic views over the Savannah River.

What to Do

The wedding reception we attended was at Old Fort Jackson, a National Historic Landmark. Located on the Savannah River, the early 19th-century fort is the oldest standing brick fortification in Georgia. We enjoyed the military history museum inside the fort and were even able to see a cannon demonstration during the reception, provided by historical interpreters. Old Fort Jackson was such a unique and beautiful place to have a wedding reception and we enjoyed spending the evening there!

Normal admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 3-12. The fort is open to the public from 9-4 every day of the week.

One of my favorite things to do when in Savannah is take a stroll through the Art and Farmers’ Market at Forsyth Park. It is easily one of the biggest and best farmers’ markets that I’ve been to and has consistently quality and unique items. Put together a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park at the farmers’ portion of the market, and then look for a souvenir to bring home at the art portion of the market. Open every Saturday from 9 to 1.

Most of the Riverfront hotels have great pools, so another activity to enjoy on a parents’ getaway to Savannah is an afternoon at the pool. I don’t know about you, but going to the pool with kids is not always the most relaxing experience, so it’s a treat to just chill with drinks and friends poolside!

Where to Stay

We stayed at the Andaz Savannah for the weekend. The Hyatt property is stylish and comfortable and the location is easily walkable to everything downtown. We stayed in a spacious suite and enjoyed some of the hotel’s amenities like the pool and evening s’mores by the fire. The only negative about our stay was our breakfast at 22 Square was not good (meals, coffee, and service was all disappointing), but otherwise, we were impressed with Andaz!

Several of our friends stayed at the Alida, another beautiful hotel conveniently located in the Riverfront District. Not only did we eat dinner at Rhett onsite, but we also visited the Alida for a few hours at the pool. Our friends that stayed there all had positive reviews of the Marriott property.

We may be visiting Savannah again later this spring, so if you have suggestions for your favorite restaurants or things to do, please share in the comments!
